Per-Seat, On-Demand Air Transportation Part I: Problem Description and an Integer Multicommodity Flow Model
نویسندگان
چکیده
The availability of relatively cheap small jet planes has lead to the creation of on-demand air transportation services in which travelers call a few days in advance to schedule a flight. A successful on-demand air transportation service requires an effective scheduling system to construct minimum cost pilot and jet itineraries for a set of accepted transportation requests. We present an integer multi-commodity network flow model with side constraints for such dial-a-flight problems. We develop a variety of techniques to control the size of the network and to strengthen the quality of the linear programming relaxation, which allows the solution of small instances. In Part II, we describe how this core optimization technology is embedded in a parallel, large neighborhood, local search scheme to produce high-quality solutions efficiently for large-scale real-life instances.

T availability of relatively cheap small jet aircrafts suggests a new air transportation business: dial-a-flight, an on-demand service in which travelers call a few days in advance to schedule transportation. متن کاملJoint Optimization of Star P-hub Median Problem and Seat Inventory Control Decisions Considering a Hybrid Routing Transportation System
In this paper, we study the problem of integrated capacitated hub location problem and seat inventory control considering concept and techniques of revenue management. We consider an airline company maximizes its revenue by utilizing the best network topology and providing proper booking limits for all itineraries and fare classes. The transportation system arises in the form of a star/star net...
متن کاملThe Traffic Flow Management Rerouting Problem in Air Traffic Control: A Dynamic Network Flow Approach
We address the problem of determining how to reroute aircraft in the air traffic control system when faced with dynamically changing weather conditions. The overall objective of this problem is the minimization of delay costs. This problem is of primary concern in the European air traffic control system and in particular regions within the US air traffic control system. We present an integrated...
متن کاملA Fast Strategy to Find Solution for Survivable Multicommodity Network
This paper proposes an immediately efficient method, based on Benders Decomposition (BD), for solving the survivable capacitated network design problem. This problem involves selecting a set of arcs for building a survivable network at a minimum cost and within a satisfied flow. The system is subject to failure and capacity restriction. To solve this problem, the BD was initially proposed with ...
متن کاملEfficient Circulation of Railway Rolling Stock
R rolling stock is one of the most significant cost components for operators of passenger trains. The efficient circulation of rolling stock is therefore one of the main objectives pursued in practice. This paper focuses on the determination of appropriate numbers of train units of different types together with their efficient circulation on a single line. To utilize the train units on this lin...
